{"id":106,"date":"2025-11-03T08:45:41","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T13:45:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ar.bu.edu\/2025\/?page_id=106"},"modified":"2025-11-25T16:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T21:56:16","slug":"grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ar.bu.edu\/2025\/scientific-progress\/grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants &#038; Awards: Fueling Discovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Every day, Boston University researchers are powered by major grants that translate their ideas into practical applications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BETTER ANTIBIOTICS<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/carb-x.org\/\"><strong>CARB-X<\/strong><\/a> (Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator), which operates out of the <strong>School of Law<\/strong>, received $22.8 million from the <strong>Italian government<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2024\/italian-government-gives-21-million-to-bu-research\/\">to advance new antibiotics, vaccines, and diagnostics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>PULMONARY FIBROSIS<\/strong><br \/>\nBoston University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/crem.bu.edu\/\"><strong>Center for Regenerative Medicine<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Boston Medical Center<\/strong>, supported by nearly $7.5 million from biopharmaceutical company <strong>GSK<\/strong>, have begun a partnership <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2024\/collaboration-to-pioneer-new-lung-disease-treatments\/\">to better understand pulmonary fibrosis<\/a> and identify new drug targets that halt or slow its progression.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>CHILDHOOD SUCCESS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe <strong>School of Social Work<\/strong> received $1.1 million from the <strong>W.K. Kellogg Foundation<\/strong> to create the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/research\/centers\/iecohd\/\"><strong>Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity &amp; Healthy Development<\/strong><\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2025\/school-of-social-work-transformative-hire-childhood-equity\/\">will conduct research on the conditions children need to grow and thrive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>POLARIZATION AND BELIEF<\/strong><br \/>\nA <strong>Wheelock College of Education &amp; Human Development<\/strong>\u2013led team of researchers received close to $2 million from the <strong>Templeton World Charity Foundation<\/strong> to launch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2025\/tracking-endangered-frogs-and-studying-kids-beliefs\/\">an international study of how children\u2019s beliefs form and change<\/a>. Their goal is to provide new insights into polarization and ways to mitigate it.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>QUANTUM ENCRYPTION<\/strong><br \/>\nA multidisciplinary team led by Boston University researchers received a $2.8 million Growing Convergence Research award from the <strong>National Science Foundation<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2025\/our-online-world-relies-on-encryption-what-happens-if-it-fails\/\">to develop a physics-inspired approach to data security and privacy<\/a> in an increasingly digital world.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>SPIRITUAL GROWTH<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new <strong>Nurturing Immigrant Children\u2019s Faith Experiences En Familia Program<\/strong>, led by the <strong>School of Theology<\/strong>, received a $1.25 million grant from <strong>Lilly Endowment Inc.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth\/bu-grant-from-lilly-en-familia\/\">to help foster the spiritual growth of children and teenagers<\/a>, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every day, Boston University researchers are powered by major grants that translate their ideas into practical applications: BETTER ANTIBIOTICS CARB-X (Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator), which operates out of the School of Law, received $22.8 million from the Italian government to advance new antibiotics, vaccines, and diagnostics.
